Who is Jim Weir and Why am I running Dayton Public School Board

Purpose: To bring my diverse expertise in leadership and practical short and long term strategic planning to the leadership of the Dayton Public Schools as a forward thinking problem solver and consensus builder.

Background:
• Parent of DPS special-needs student and sports coach
• Former Instructor (10 years),
• Bachelor’s degree (WSU) in philosophy and computer science
• Collaborative software solution Team Leader setting strategic direction for Team and 300+ WPAFB personnel
• Co-leadership of Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, local TSA parent advocate/trainer, TSA lobbyist to state/federal venues
• Educational advocate
• Neighborhood Leadership Institute graduate
• Walnut Hills Neighborhood Housing Coordinator.


Why?
• Want to bring neighbors and neighborhoods together in support of educational improvement within the community
• Attract and sustain young urban professional families to the Dayton Public Schools
• Foster greater parental/guardian involvement in their student’s educational activities such as before/after school community centers recreation; Community sports
• Graduating confident, high-achievers regardless of their learning pathway
• Partnering neighborhoods with neighborhood businesses to support the schools
• Form community-wide partnerships to give the best advantage possible to all students
